What should you know before changing your beauty routine?

LED masks, adult blemishes, bags and eye makeup

Do LED masks actually make a difference to the skin?

They can help, provided expectations stay realistic. Red light is mainly used to support a smoother, more even-looking complexion, while blue light targets the bacteria involved in breakouts. Results build slowly and depend on regular sessions over several weeks, not on one evening. Start on clean, dry skin, protect your eyes, follow the recommended session length and ask a dermatologist first if you take photosensitising medication or have an active skin condition.

Why do pimples keep appearing on the face well into adulthood?

Adult breakouts often follow hormonal shifts, stress, poor sleep or a routine that is too harsh. Scrubbing hard and stacking drying products push the skin to produce more oil, which feeds the cycle. A gentle cleanser, a light non-comedogenic moisturiser and a single targeted treatment usually work better than a cabinet full of products. Clean pillowcases and phone screens count too. If spots become painful, deep or leave marks, see a dermatologist.

Is there a real difference between a sling bag and a shoulder bag?

In everyday use the two words often overlap. A sling bag is usually small and worn across the body, sometimes on the back or chest, while a shoulder bag hangs from one shoulder on a shorter strap. Choose according to what you carry and how much you move.

Which eyeshadow shades bring out blue eyes?

Warm tones sit opposite blue on the colour wheel, so copper, bronze, peach and soft gold make the iris look brighter. Taupe and warm brown suit daytime, while a deep bronze smoky eye works for the evening. Keep heavy matching blue away from the lash line.

The method in three steps

An oil treatment for dry, brittle hair

Dry or damaged hair · 30 minutes to overnight · a plant oil, a wide-tooth comb and a towel

  1. 1

    Choose and warm the oil

Pick a plant oil suited to your hair: a light one for fine hair, a richer one for thick or curly hair. Warm a small amount between your palms rather than in a pan, so it spreads evenly and stays pleasant to touch.

  2. 2

    Work it through the lengths

Divide dry or slightly damp hair into four sections and apply the oil from mid-lengths to ends, where hair is oldest and most fragile. Go easy near the roots, especially if your scalp tends to get oily. Comb through with a wide-tooth comb, then twist the hair into a loose bun so the oil stays where it is needed.

  3. 3

    Leave in, then wash

Leave the oil for at least thirty minutes, or overnight with a towel over the pillow. Apply shampoo to dry hair first, before adding water, so it lifts the oil more easily. Rinse well, then use a light conditioner only on the ends. Once a week is enough for most hair.
